battle.net has passed automated validation. It may have or may still fail other checks like testing (verification).
NOTE: No required changes that the validator checks have been flagged! It is appreciated if you fix other items, but only Requirements will hold up a package version from approval. A human review could still turn up issues a computer may not easily find.

Guidelines

Guidelines are strong suggestions that improve the quality of a package version. These are considered something to fix for next time to increase the quality of the package. Over time Guidelines can become Requirements. A package version can be approved without addressing Guideline comments but will reduce the quality of the package.

  • Release Notes (releaseNotes) are a short description of changes in each version of a package. Please include releasenotes in the nuspec. NOTE: To prevent the need to continually update this field, providing a URL to an external list of Release Notes is perfectly acceptable. More...
Notes

Notes typically flag things for both you and the reviewer to go over. Sometimes this is the use of things that may or may not be necessary given the constraints of what you are trying to do and/or are harder for automation to flag for other reasons. Items found in Notes might be Requirements depending on the context. A package version can be approved without addressing Note comments.

  • The package id includes dots (.). Usually the package id is separated by '-' instead of dots (except in the case of *.install and *.portable). The reviewer will ensure this is not a new package. More...

battle.net has passed automated testing.
This is not the only check that is performed so check the package page to ensure a 'Ready' status.
Please visit https://gist.github.com/c09826cab025dad0568083497e1a03b0 for details.
This is an FYI only. There is no action you need to take.

Hi Christophe,

Can you add a checksum and checksumType to your chocolateyInstall.ps1?

Thanks.

chtof (maintainer) on 20 Jul 2019 16:15:34 +00:00:

Hi Paul,

The checksum is not static:

get-remotechecksum https://eu.battle.net/download/getInstaller?os=win"&"installer=Battle.net-Setup.exe
54a8e570fe4ea42df79b6fa597d61654589556e72cee46f82a6f7d03b81c8f72
get-remotechecksum https://eu.battle.net/download/getInstaller?os=win"&"installer=Battle.net-Setup.exe
55ff57bcf6fc076ce6d86524d0b23d0c2708d0bd048bea902c4123063353dc76
get-remotechecksum https://eu.battle.net/download/getInstaller?os=win"&"installer=Battle.net-Setup.exe
47893d3bb278358642a5f33fb311fb597e9624232d2d22f597593e45c7a11b0f

How can we handle a such case?

Pauby (reviewer) on 23 Jul 2019 10:25:20 +00:00:

There are not a lot of options if that is the case. And I'm honestly not sure what to suggest other than reaching out to the vendor?

chtof (maintainer) on 23 Jul 2019 11:38:31 +00:00:

There is already a post on the Blizzard forum (19th of May 2019) with not yet an answer:

https://us.battle.net/forums/en/bnet/topic/20771617052

chtof (maintainer) on 23 Jul 2019 18:07:40 +00:00:

To complete my previous post, just F.Y.I. the post on the Blizzard forum has been posted in the "BUG REPORT" category.

I am surprised you haven't already has such cases in the past to tell me how they have been solved. I have the same issue with vuescan package.

What about to implement an option "--insecure" option (explaining why they have to use this switch and the risks) in Chocolatey to allow users to install such packages?

Pauby (reviewer) on 24 Jul 2019 08:48:31 +00:00:

There is a switch already in Chocolatey to ignore the checksum for packages but all packages on the Community Repository must still have a valid checksum so they doesn't help here.

If you want to suggest that switch then you can raise it at https://github.com/chocolatey/choco/issues

Pauby (reviewer) on 26 Jul 2019 08:51:42 +00:00:

I'll ignore this package just now. Let us know when you are ready to move forward.

chtof (maintainer) on 05 Aug 2019 16:42:35 +00:00:

This version of the package (or maybe the package itself?) can be rejected.

Package rejected as the checksum of the installer changes all the time and on another hand, the license doesn't allow to embed the installer. So there is no way to integrate this package in the official Chocolatey repository.

Pauby (reviewer) on 06 Aug 2019 10:12:37 +00:00:

Package rejected at maintainers request - Package rejected as the checksum of the installer changes all the time and on another hand, the license doesn't allow to embed the installer. So there is no way to integrate this package in the official Chocolatey repository.
Status Change - Changed status of package from 'submitted' to 'rejected'.

bcurran3 (maintainer) on 14 Aug 2019 18:18:32 +00:00:

So this package got rejected by request.

Hypothetically, what if the package was presented via comments at https://github.com/chocolatey/choco/issues/1888?

Summary: Does a Chocolatey Community Repository package using HTTPS to download a file require checksums? It doesn't need them programatically and it does not APPEAR to need checksums when using HTTPS to download via the moderators guide.

So let's push this as a precedent as it's OK, or get it documented that it's not allowed.

Again, please read my comments in https://github.com/chocolatey/choco/issues/1888

In cases where actual malware is found, the packages are subject to removal. Software sometimes has false positives. Moderators do not necessarily validate the safety of the underlying software, only that a package retrieves software from the official distribution point and/or validate embedded software against official distribution point (where distribution rights allow redistribution).

Chocolatey Pro provides runtime protection from possible malware.
