bitcoinxt.install has passed automated validation. It may have or may still fail other checks like testing (verification).
NOTE: No required changes that the validator checks have been flagged! It is appreciated if you fix other items, but only Requirements will hold up a package version from approval. A human review could still turn up issues a computer may not easily find.

Guidelines

Guidelines are strong suggestions that improve the quality of a package version. These are considered something to fix for next time to increase the quality of the package. Over time Guidelines can become Requirements. A package version can be approved without addressing Guideline comments but will reduce the quality of the package.

Can you please remove the update.ps1 from this package, as it is not required.
Also, the readme file, this isn't required either.
There is a higher than normal virus detection on a file in the package. Is this a known issue? Can you point to somewhere where this is discussed by software author?

tunisiano (maintainer) on 31 Aug 2020 08:47:09 +00:00:

Changes done, and the virus is asked in the issues here : https://github.com/bitcoinxt/bitcoinxt/issues/520
It was solved, but didn't saw it was back

gep13 (reviewer) on 31 Aug 2020 09:06:35 +00:00:

The readme file is still included and isn't required.

Can you please update teh description to include information about the issue that you have raised regarding the virus detections.

Thanks

I also just noticed that there are templated variables in this package as well, can you fix those up?

Based on the response to your GitHub issue, how would you like to proceed?

tunisiano (maintainer) on 02 Sep 2020 08:57:13 +00:00:

To be honest i don't really know...
1 - we publish it, the description says there is known issue but they have the latest version
2 - i change the package to deprecated one and explain the virus detection and the unmaintained state...
What's the best practice ? or is there a defined procedure for this case?

gep13 (reviewer) on 03 Sep 2020 06:32:26 +00:00:

Deprecation doesn't seem like the correct approach to me. There isn't another package to point to, so that isn't an option.

Approving a package that is known to have so many virus detections, with no active work to correct this in the future also feels wrong.

I am more inclined to simply reject the package, and move on.

Thoughts?

tunisiano (maintainer) on 03 Sep 2020 07:52:08 +00:00:

Yes, that seems fine for me

gep13 (reviewer) on 04 Sep 2020 07:58:48 +00:00:

Rejecting as per maintainer agreement.
Status Change - Changed status of package from 'submitted' to 'rejected'.

Description

Bitcoin XT (Not mainained anymore)

Bitcoin XT is an implementation of a Bitcoin full node, based upon the source code of Bitcoin Core with a focus on upgrades to the peer to peer protocol. By running it you can opt in to providing the Bitcoin network with additional services beyond what Bitcoin Core provides, including bigger blocks.

It is built by taking the latest stable Core release, applying a series of patches, and then doing deterministic builds so anyone can check the downloads correspond to the source code.

Known issues

Virus detection : More info

Disk Requirements

  • Size increases based on quantity of transactions (growth chart)
  • Blockchain is slowly downloaded only when Bitcoin XT is running and connected to network
  • Blockchain default location is %AppData%\Bitcoin\data
  • Bitcoin XT uses the same data directories as Bitcoin Core so either program can use the same blockchain data.

Security

  • This program should only be installed on a trusted machine.
  • By default, upon first execution Bitcoin XT creates an unencrypted wallet file at %AppData%\Bitcoin\wallet.dat
  • Wallet.dat stores all your private keys for public Bitcoin addresses. If this file is not encrypted, anyone with access to the file may withdraw funds from addresses stored in the file. For this reason, you should encrypt wallet.dat as soon as possible from the Bitcoin XT interface.
  • After encrypting wallet.dat, back up wallet.dat to at least one other secure storage medium.
  • More information about securing your wallet
