Requirements

Requirements represent the minimum quality of a package that is acceptable. When a package version has failed requirements, the package version requires fixing and/or response by the maintainer. Provided a Requirement has flagged correctly, it must be fixed before the package version can be approved. The exact same version should be uploaded during moderation review.

  • Deprecated Packages must contain a dependency to the package(s) which the package is deprecating for. More...
  • The install script should be named chocolateyInstall.ps1 and be found in the tools folder. Your script is named incorrectly and will need to be renamed. More...
Guidelines

Guidelines are strong suggestions that improve the quality of a package version. These are considered something to fix for next time to increase the quality of the package. Over time Guidelines can become Requirements. A package version can be approved without addressing Guideline comments but will reduce the quality of the package.

  • Release Notes (releaseNotes) are a short description of changes in each version of a package. Please include releasenotes in the nuspec. NOTE: To prevent the need to continually update this field, providing a URL to an external list of Release Notes is perfectly acceptable. More...

dart-sdk-dev has passed automated testing.
This is not the only check that is performed so check the package page to ensure a 'Ready' status.

https://github.com/chocolatey/package-validator/wiki/DeprecatedPackagesMustHaveADependency

I tried to do that. The correct replacement for this package is dart-sdk version 2.0.0.50-dev which choco pack refused to accept. Adding the stable version is incorrect, because it will replace this version with a much older version of the package.

Is there a way to get choco pack to accept the pre-release dependency?

My intention was to follow these best practices: https://chocolatey.org/docs/create-packages#what-version-of-the-software-should-i-package
https://chocolatey.org/docs/how-to-deprecate-a-chocolatey-package

However, that seems to be problematic. The dart-sdk package will constantly display the latest -dev release because they are released weekly, and hence chocolatey.org will advise users to install an unstable build. The dart-sdk-dev package isn't easy to deprecate because it can't be released with a dependency on its replacement. Should I just maintain both packages?

Sorry for the length of time getting back to you.

Unfortunately, I don't have a good answer for you here. Currently, there is no mechanism for a dependency to reference a pre-release version number.

Thinking about it, I am wondering whether Chocolatey.org is the correct place for your pre-release packages. Perhaps it would be better to use something like MyGet to host your dev binaries, and only push to Chocolatey.org when you have an official release. This would mean that you would need to instruct your end users on how to use an additional source for Chocolatey, but it would provide clear separation between the official release, and the dev version.

This is actually what we do for Chocolatey GUI:

What do you think?

chocolatey-ops (reviewer) on 21 Dec 2018 10:42:51 +00:00:

We've found dart-sdk-dev v2.0.0.50 in a submitted status and waiting for your next actions. It has had no updates for 20 or more days since a reviewer has asked for corrections. Please note that if there is no response or fix of the package within 15 days of this message, this package version will automatically be closed (rejected) due to being stale.

Take action:

  • Log in to the site and respond to the review comments.
  • Resubmit fixes for this version.
  • If the package version is failing automated checks, you can self-reject the package.

If your package is failing automated testing, you can use the chocolatey test environment to manually run the verification and determine what may need to be fixed.

Note: We don't like to see packages automatically rejected. It doesn't mean that we don't value your contributions, just that we can not continue to hold packages versions in a waiting status that have possibly been abandoned. If you don't believe you will be able to fix up this version of the package within 15 days, we strongly urge you to log in to the site and respond to the review comments until you are able to.

Unfortunately there has not been progress to move dart-sdk-dev v2.0.0.50 towards an approved status within 15 days after the last review message, so we need to close (reject) the package version at this time. If you want to pick this version up and move it towards approval in the future, use the contact site admins link on the package page and we can move it back into a submitted status so you can submit updates.

Status Change - Changed status of package from 'submitted' to 'rejected'.

Description

This package is deprecated and will no longer be updated.
The dart-sdk-dev package's purpose was to publish pre-releases of the Dart SDK.
Dev pre-releases are now published to the dart-sdk package with the version suffix "-dev".

Moderators do not necessarily validate the safety of the underlying software, only that a package retrieves software from the official distribution point and/or validate embedded software against official distribution point (where distribution rights allow redistribution).
