Requirements

Requirements represent the minimum quality of a package that is acceptable. When a package version has failed requirements, the package version requires fixing and/or response by the maintainer. Provided a Requirement has flagged correctly, it must be fixed before the package version can be approved. The exact same version should be uploaded during moderation review.

  • ProjectUrl (projectUrl) in the nuspec file is required. Please add it to the nuspec. More...
Guidelines

Guidelines are strong suggestions that improve the quality of a package version. These are considered something to fix for next time to increase the quality of the package. Over time Guidelines can become Requirements. A package version can be approved without addressing Guideline comments but will reduce the quality of the package.

  • The iconUrl should be added if there is one. Please correct this in the nuspec, if applicable. More...
  • The licenseUrl should be added if there is one. Please correct this in the nuspec, if applicable. More...
  • ProjectUrl and ProjectSourceUrl are typically different, but not always. Please ensure that projectSourceUrl is pointing to software source code or remove the field from the nuspec. More...
  • Release Notes (releaseNotes) are a short description of changes in each version of a package. Please include releasenotes in the nuspec. NOTE: To prevent the need to continually update this field, providing a URL to an external list of Release Notes is perfectly acceptable. More...
  • Description should be sufficient to explain the software. Please fill in the description with more information about the software. Feel free to use use markdown. More...
Suggestions

Suggestions are either newly introduced items that will later become Guidelines or items that are don't carry enough weight to become a Guideline. Either way they should be considered. A package version can be approved without addressing Suggestion comments.

  • The nuspec has been enhanced to allow more information related to the software. More... Please consider adding one or more of the following to the nuspec, if available:
    • docsUrl - points to the location of the wiki or docs of the software
    • mailingListUrl - points to the forum or email list group for the software
    • bugTrackerUrl - points to the location where issues and tickets can be accessed
    • projectSourceUrl - points to the location of the underlying software source
Notes

Notes typically flag things for both you and the reviewer to go over. Sometimes this is the use of things that may or may not be necessary given the constraints of what you are trying to do and/or are harder for automation to flag for other reasons. Items found in Notes might be Requirements depending on the context. A package version can be approved without addressing Note comments.

  • The package maintainer field (owners) matches the software author field (authors) in the nuspec. The reviewer will ensure that the package maintainer is also the software author. More...

You appear to be self-hosting the binaries in your own Github repository. Can you clarify where these binaries came from. It would be helpful if there was a LICENSE.txt in the package or you could point licenceUrl to a URL for the license for this software so we can be sure it is ok for Chocolatey to point to it.

You should also add a description to the package.

thanks,
David

Hello David,

thank you for the review. I can for sure add a description. Didn't have time for that last week.

As for the binaries, they originally came from the website which doesn't exist anymore.
This is the link:
http://drupaldance.com/blog/%D1%82%D0%B8%D0%BF%D0%BE%D0%B3%D1%80%D0%B0%D1%84%D0%B8%D0%BA%D0%B0-%D1%81%D0%B8%D0%BC%D0%B2%D0%BE%D0%BB%D1%8B-%D0%B8-%D1%80%D0%B0%D1%81%D0%BA%D0%BB%D0%B0%D0%B4%D0%BA%D0%B8
It comes from this wikipedia page:
https://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%A2%D0%B8%D0%BF%D0%BE%D0%B3%D1%80%D0%B0%D1%84%D1%81%D0%BA%D0%B0%D1%8F_%D1%80%D0%B0%D1%81%D0%BA%D0%BB%D0%B0%D0%B4%D0%BA%D0%B0_%D0%98%D0%BB%D1%8C%D0%B8_%D0%91%D0%B8%D1%80%D0%BC%D0%B0%D0%BD%D0%B0

There was no license there. The installer is created using Microsoft's layout creator.

Please tell me if there is anything else besides the description I should do.

Kind regards,
Denys.

Hello,

Thank you for taking the time to respond. Unfortunately, I don't think we are going to be able to proceed with the moderation process for this package. We need to be able to determine the legitimacy of the files that you are including in this package, and put simply, we can't.

You can self hosting the zip files, which could literally contain anything. Since these can't be referenced back to the original application, I don't see any way to proceed.

Gary

derwasp (maintainer) on 18 Apr 2017 16:55:07 +00:00:

Hello Gary,

can you please elaborate a bit on what do you mean by the original application?

These files are just keyboard layout files. And the installer was created using something called "The Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator", you can read about it here:
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/globalization/keyboardlayouts.aspx

I don't think there is an easy way to strip it out and replace with powershell based logic.

If you are afraid that I will change the files to be some random stuff, you can see that I am referencing a specific commit on github, so this one will not change without another moderation round.

If you concern is viruses and other malicious software, I though that is why you have virustotal scans.

It would be very unfortunate if you can not approve the package, since it's the only thing that I currently have to install manually, not using choco.

I hope you can reconsider.

Kind regards,
Denys.

I'm sorry about the long delay of the review for this package.
There have been a little back and forth for this one therefore it have taken such a long time, unfortunately because there is no way for us to verify that the included binary file have been grabbed from an official distribution point we are forced to reject this package this time.

If you want to discuss this decision, then feel free to jump into our gitter channel:

In cases where actual malware is found, the packages are subject to removal. Software sometimes has false positives. Moderators do not necessarily validate the safety of the underlying software, only that a package retrieves software from the official distribution point and/or validate embedded software against official distribution point (where distribution rights allow redistribution).

Chocolatey Pro provides runtime protection from possible malware.
