sql-server-developer has passed automated validation. It may have or may still fail other checks like testing (verification).
NOTE: No required changes that the validator checks have been flagged! It is appreciated if you fix other items, but only Requirements will hold up a package version from approval. A human review could still turn up issues a computer may not easily find.

Suggestions

Suggestions are either newly introduced items that will later become Guidelines or items that are don't carry enough weight to become a Guideline. Either way they should be considered. A package version can be approved without addressing Suggestion comments.

sql-server-developer has failed automated testing.
This is not the only check that is performed so check the package page to ensure a 'Ready' status.
Please visit https://gist.github.com/6d6585f85caff71c1d235bc994941b95 for details.
The package status will be changed and will be waiting on your next actions.

  • NEW! We have a test environment for you to replicate the testing we do. This can be used at any time to test packages! See https://github.com/chocolatey/chocolatey-test-environment
  • Please log in and leave a review comment if you have questions and/or comments.
  • If you see the verifier needs to rerun testing against the package without resubmitting (a issue in the test results), you can do that on the package page in the review section.
  • If the verifier is incompatible with the package, please log in and leave a review comment if the package needs to bypass testing (e.g. package installs specific drivers).
  • Automated testing can also fail when a package is not completely silent or has pop ups (AutoHotKey can assist - a great example is the VeraCrypt package).
  • A package that cannot be made completely unattended should have the notSilent tag. Note that this must be approved by moderators.

This appears to have the same dependency reboot issues as sql-server-express.

flcdrg (reviewer) on 17 Jun 2018 11:30:03 +00:00:

I think this is a duplicate of https://chocolatey.org/packages/sql-server-2017 ?

cole.mike (maintainer) on 18 Jun 2018 13:27:10 +00:00:

Yes I believe you're correct. What are your thoughts on the naming standard, though? We have sql-server-express for the Express edition which I think is correct, but I believe there should also be a sql-server-developer to match that scheme. Maybe sql-server-express should always install the latest version of Express regardless of the major version, and sql-server-developer should do the same with the Developer edition? I'd be willing to help with any cleanup/maintenance if mods feel it is needed... just let me know. Thanks!

flcdrg (reviewer) on 19 Jun 2018 01:24:52 +00:00:

Naming is hard :-)

I'd suggest that major versions of SQL Server should be separate packages, as you can installed them side-by-side. If they're all the same package then Chocolatey doesn't handle that so well.

I did think about about whether sql-server-2017 should have 'developer' in it - maybe it should have. I guess I decided that seeing as Standard and Enterprise SKUs are commercial (and not directly downloadable) then for the moment those were unlikely to end up on Chocolatey, so the Developer SKU was it (apart from Express).

So maybe I should have named the other sql-server-developer-2017? :-)

David

cole.mike (maintainer) on 19 Jun 2018 01:55:53 +00:00:

I think you're absolutely correct, and I overlooked the fact that major versions can be installed side by side. I think my major hang up wasn't that the naming wasn't what I thought it should be, but that it wasn't consistent. I easily found sql-server-express via choco search, could not find the Developer edition in search, manually typed the sql-server-developer url, saw that didn't exist, and assumed I should create it.

You're right. Naming is hard. I didn't realize it was your package either, so I apologize if coming off overly critical.

I'm trying to think of productive suggestions to make a positive impact. Perhaps it's either creating a sql-server-2017-express or a sql-server-2017-developer package, even if they are just pointers to the other packages? Or something different like showing a "related packages" list in the gallery? Or maybe I just chalk this up to a misunderstanding/learning experience and go on with my life (and ignore my OCD)? :-)

flcdrg (reviewer) on 19 Jun 2018 02:20:13 +00:00:

Ha! No, didn't see your comments as critical.

Yeah, I do think there's probably some value in creating some 'empty' packages that just redirect to the proper one - though that's something possibly to discuss with Rob/Gary.

I see similar issues with things like all the different variations of naming for the .NET Framework packages.

I do think coming up with a sensible convention makes sense and will help end-users too.

It's trickier as to do it right, we'd need to coordinate across all the various SQL packages and maintainers. Tricky, but not impossible!

chocolatey-ops (reviewer) on 21 Dec 2018 11:30:22 +00:00:

We've found sql-server-developer v14.1805.4072.1 in a submitted status and waiting for your next actions. It has had no updates for 20 or more days since a reviewer has asked for corrections. Please note that if there is no response or fix of the package within 15 days of this message, this package version will automatically be closed (rejected) due to being stale.

Take action:

  • Log in to the site and respond to the review comments.
  • Resubmit fixes for this version.
  • If the package version is failing automated checks, you can self-reject the package.

If your package is failing automated testing, you can use the chocolatey test environment to manually run the verification and determine what may need to be fixed.

Note: We don't like to see packages automatically rejected. It doesn't mean that we don't value your contributions, just that we can not continue to hold packages versions in a waiting status that have possibly been abandoned. If you don't believe you will be able to fix up this version of the package within 15 days, we strongly urge you to log in to the site and respond to the review comments until you are able to.

Unfortunately there has not been progress to move sql-server-developer v14.1805.4072.1 towards an approved status within 15 days after the last review message, so we need to close (reject) the package version at this time. If you want to pick this version up and move it towards approval in the future, use the contact site admins link on the package page and we can move it back into a submitted status so you can submit updates.

Status Change - Changed status of package from 'submitted' to 'rejected'.
