StyleCop analyzes C# source code to enforce a set of style and consistency rules. It can be run from inside of Visual Studio or integrated into an MSBuild project. StyleCop has also been integrated into many third-party development tools.

The package installs the standalone StyleCop binaries, an extension for Visual Studio 2008-2015 and an extension for ReSharper 8.2 or earlier.

This is the last version of StyleCop published as an MSI installer. Later StyleCop releases (5.x) provide separate packages for the Visual Studio extension (stylecop-vsix) and the ReSharper extension (installable from the ReSharper gallery).

To install StyleCop, run the following command from the command line or from PowerShell:

C:\> choco install stylecop

To upgrade StyleCop, run the following command from the command line or from PowerShell:

C:\> choco upgrade stylecop

    Verification is intended to assist the Chocolatey moderators and community
    in verifying that this package's contents are trustworthy.
    Package can be verified like this:
    1. Go to
       and click "download archive" to download a ~500 MB zip archive of all
       StyleCop project content from CodePlex.
    2. From the downloaded archive, extract the "releases" subdirectory.
    3. Open releases\releaseList.json containing the list of StyleCop releases.
    4. Locate the release information for the package version being verified.
    5. Examine the files list in the release information and note the path to the
       msi file ("Url"). This path is relative to the "releases" directory.
    6. Find the file pointed to by "Url" and compare with the msi file
       embedded in the package.

Virus Scan Results

In cases where actual malware is found, the packages are subject to removal. Software sometimes has false positives. Moderators do not necessarily validate the safety of the underlying software, only that a package retrieves software from the official distribution point and/or validate embedded software against official distribution point (where distribution rights allow redistribution).

Chocolatey Pro provides runtime protection from possible malware.
