Requirements

Requirements represent the minimum quality of a package that is acceptable. When a package version has failed requirements, the package version requires fixing and/or response by the maintainer. Provided a Requirement has flagged correctly, it must be fixed before the package version can be approved. The exact same version should be uploaded during moderation review.

dotnet-core-3-desktop-runtime has passed automated validation. It may have or may still fail other checks like testing (verification).
NOTE: No required changes that the validator checks have been flagged! It is appreciated if you fix other items, but only Requirements will hold up a package version from approval. A human review could still turn up issues a computer may not easily find.

I have a follow up question regarding the name that you have chosen here:

dotnet-core-3-desktop-runtime

In terms of consistency, is there a reason that you didn't choose something like:

dotnetcore-desktop-runtime

similar to what was done there:

https://chocolatey.org/packages/dotnetcore-runtime

That way, when required, you could push additional major versions to the same package id.

noseratio (maintainer) on 01 Sep 2020 21:43:27 +00:00:

> That way, when required, you could push additional major versions to the same package id.

That's a good question and the answer is, yes there's a good reason for that.

Unlike the legacy .NET Framework up to v4.x, with .NET Core (and soon .NET 5), the major versions can run side-by-side with each other. So, while this package is called dotnet-core-3-desktop-runtime, the one for the soon-to-be-released .NET 5 will be called dotnet-core-5-desktop-runtime, and I'll want to install both at the same time on the same machine.

v3 will be supported as an LTS version unti December 3, 2022, long after v5 is released. At some point, Microsoft will most likely release v3.1.8 as a security patch, and I'll then update dotnet-core-3-desktop-runtime with it.

dotnet-core-3-desktop-runtime has passed automated testing.
This is not the only check that is performed so check the package page to ensure a 'Ready' status.

This is an FYI only. There is no action you need to take.

Okay, that makes sense to me.

So the final question I have, which I eluded to previously was the start of the package id. If you look at the existing packages on chocolatey.org around dotnet core, and aspnet core, they all start with the suffix for dotnetcore, rather than dotnet-core. In terms of discoverability, I would suggest that this be renamed to dotnetcore3-desktop-runtime. What are your thoughts? This would fit with what has been done with the .Net Framework packages, which are dotnet4.5, dotnet4.6.2, etc.

> I would suggest that this be renamed to dotnetcore3-desktop-runtime. What are your thoughts?

Agreed! Done - thank you.
The new package is here: https://chocolatey.org/packages/dotnetcore3-desktop-runtime/3.1.7
Could you please reject all other variants?
Thanks!

gep13 (reviewer) on 04 Sep 2020 07:19:05 +00:00:

Rejecting as per maintainer request. Using new package id instead:

In cases where actual malware is found, the packages are subject to removal. Software sometimes has false positives. Moderators do not necessarily validate the safety of the underlying software, only that a package retrieves software from the official distribution point and/or validate embedded software against official distribution point (where distribution rights allow redistribution).
