msoledbsql18 has passed automated validation. It may have or may still fail other checks like testing (verification).
NOTE: No required changes that the validator checks have been flagged! It is appreciated if you fix other items, but only Requirements will hold up a package version from approval. A human review could still turn up issues a computer may not easily find.

Guidelines

Guidelines are strong suggestions that improve the quality of a package version. These are considered something to fix for next time to increase the quality of the package. Over time Guidelines can become Requirements. A package version can be approved without addressing Guideline comments but will reduce the quality of the package.

  • The licenseUrl should be added if there is one. Please correct this in the nuspec, if applicable. More...
  • Release Notes (releaseNotes) are a short description of changes in each version of a package. Please include releasenotes in the nuspec. NOTE: To prevent the need to continually update this field, providing a URL to an external list of Release Notes is perfectly acceptable. More...
Suggestions

Suggestions are either newly introduced items that will later become Guidelines or items that are don't carry enough weight to become a Guideline. Either way they should be considered. A package version can be approved without addressing Suggestion comments.

msoledbsql18 has passed automated package testing (verification). The next step in the process is package scanning.
Please visit https://gist.github.com/choco-bot/5fc6757b479bfdaaaa3d38243cea5226 for details.
This is an FYI only. There is no action you need to take.

chocolatey-ops (reviewer) on 24 Feb 2024 01:28:56 +00:00:

msoledbsql18 has been flagged as part of automated virus scanning.
Package virus scanning found that at least 1 file within, or downloaded by, the package has between 1 and 5 VirusTotal detections associated with it.
This is not enough detections to prevent the approval of this package version.

This appears to be a duplicate of https://community.chocolatey.org/packages/msoledbsql ?

There may be a valid reason to have a v18 specific package, but I'd suggest you try collaborating with the other package maintainer so that they publish more recent v18 versions and then if this package is needed at all, it could just be a meta package and point to specific v18 releases of https://community.chocolatey.org/packages/msoledbsql

I'll try to collaborate on the other package. You can kill this one. Thanks.

gep13 (reviewer) on 15 Apr 2024 18:20:50 +00:00:

Thank you for replying, I will go ahead and reject this package version.

Description

This package is for the older, Microsoft OLE DB Driver 18 for SQL Server

Microsoft OLE DB Driver 18 for SQL Server is a single dynamic-link library (DLL) containing run-time support for applications using native-code APIs to connect to Microsoft SQL Server 2012, SQL Server 2014, SQL Server 2016, SQL Server 2017, SQL Server 2019, SQL Server 2022, Analytics Platform System, Azure SQL Database and Azure SQL Data Warehouse.

Microsoft OLE DB Driver 18 for SQL Server should be used to create new applications or enhance existing applications that need to take advantage of newer SQL Server features.

This redistributable installer for Microsoft OLE DB Driver 18 for SQL Server installs the client components needed during run time to take advantage of newer SQL Server features, and optionally installs the header files needed to develop an application that uses the OLE DB API.

In cases where actual malware is found, the packages are subject to removal. Software sometimes has false positives. Moderators do not necessarily validate the safety of the underlying software, only that a package retrieves software from the official distribution point and/or validate embedded software against official distribution point (where distribution rights allow redistribution).
